Alex Bielicki HECUA Lecture, Thursday, 2/18, 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Join Gustavus’s Center for International and Cultural Education on Thursday, 2/18, as they welcome Alexander Bielicki, the resident director of the HECUA Norway study away program (The New Norway: Globalization, National Identity, and the Politics of Belonging) for the talk “The Goodness Regime of the North,” this Thursday, 2/18, from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Konferensrum in the student union.

At a time when war is displacing the world’s population at the highest rates ever recorded, what does it means to be a peacekeeper? Over the past decades, Norway has established a reputation as a peace broker and mediator. Peace has become not only a program of the government and the business of NGOs, but an integral part of Norwegian national identity. How then has this image of Norway been used domestically, and how has it benefitted Norwegian action plans globally? What is the work of the goodness regime? Is it here to stay?

The talk is free and open to the Gustavus community.
