Please join the Department of Scandinavian Studies tomorrow (Thursday, February 25) at 3:30 p.m. in Confer 127 for a lecture by the wife of Swedish-born artist Öyvind Fahlström (1928-1976), Sharon Avery-Fahlström, of the Öyvind Fahlström Foundation & Archives at Museu d’art contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), Spain.

Avery-Fahlström’s lecture “Öyvind Fahlström – A Roman Artist” offers a case study on Fahlström’s work Opera, demonstrating the ways in which his palette but also his later art was inspired by the classical world. After this formal lecture (in a Q&A session) Sharon will talk more about Fahlström’s legacy and his installations on display at the Hippie Modernism exhibition (closing Feb. 29th) at the Walker Art Museum.

Free refreshments to follow the lecture.

Additional information on Fahlström can be found at: http://www.fahlstrom.com/

Avery-Fahlström’s lecture is co-sponsored by The Hillstrom Museum of Art, the Departments of Classics, Art & Art History, English, Scandinavian Studies, and the Office of the Provost.

Please share the word. We hope you will be able to join us tomorrow!
