The Gustavus Semester in Sweden program is currently underway with a group of 13 Gusties abroad. These 12 students, led by Gustavus professor Eric Eliason, left in January to embark on a semester-long journey in Sweden. The program was established in 2009 and is made up of five different courses focusing on all aspects of Swedish, as well as Nordic, life and culture. The first of many destinations in this five-month program begins with a stay in a town called Jokkmokk. There, students are able to experience life above the Arctic Circle in the heart of Scandinavia’s indigenous culture.
The group is currently living in the city of Mora, the site of the historic Vasaloppet, a world-renowned cross-country ski race. In just a couple of weeks, the students will have the opportunity to meet the Vasaloppet head-on as more than 40,000 participants will flock to Mora! From there, the group will continue south and spend time in Uppsala, Stockholm and eventually spend time in Göteborg and Jönköping.
